Running Accomplishments:

I've been running for the past 25 years.  I ran my first marathon at age 50 and have run 3 since then.  I run 5K's, 10K's and half-marathons.   I ran the Ogden Marathon in 2006 and finished in 4:35.  I won Thrid Place in my age group.

Three of my daughters and I ran the Ogden Half Marathon.  They did great and I was glad to just finish.  I ran the Riverton 1/2 marathon the end of March and pulled my hamstring and then got bursitis so I wasn't able to train as much as I wanted to.

I have slowed down a lot the past 10 years so my goal now is to keep running slow and steady until I die.  I also ride bikes and am as fast as my daughters.

We have now switched from Marathons to 1/2 marathons and Triathlons.  Last year Leslie and I did the Desert Sharks Triathlon and Daybreak.  I won first in my age group in both because there are not many people in my age group.

2010  Riverton Half Marathon 3rd in age group

Daybreak Triahtlon 2010 1st in age group

South Jordan Half Marathon 2010 1st in my age group

Riverton 10K 2010 1st in my age group

Vikingman Triathlon September 10 2010  Won 1st in my age because I was the only one in my age group

March 2011 Riverton 1/2 Marathon 1st in my age group and there were actually 6 people in my age group.

Short-Term Running Goals:

My daughters and I are starting to train for Triathlons, but would still like to run 2 half-marathons and 5K's and 10K's

2010

Riverton 1/2 Marathon  3rd in age

Daybreak Triathlon 1st in age

Riverton 10K

Hobblecreek 1/2 Marathon

Vikingman Triathlon

MS 100 Mile Bike ride finished in 7 hours

2016

Terrain Run with son and daughter.  It was fun but very muddy

August 25 Triathamom with my daugter Christine

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running, biking, swimming and stay fit until I'm 100 years old

Personal:

I'm married, have 8 kids (7 daughters and one son) and 28 grandkids. I have a great supportive husband.  The grandsons and grand daughters are now tied at 14.  I have 2 grand daughters married and one going on a mission to Australia.

After work I went to visit Dr. Toronto.  He said my hamstring was almost better and the pain in my hip was Bursitis.  He said my hip was doing a lot better and if I kept taking relafin and stretching I could run my 10 mile run tomorrow.

My daughter Jenny came down from Idaho for my other daughters baby blessing, so she and I got up early and ran 10 miles.  We brought Duke with us.  It was cool and a light mist was falling, but it was the perfect running weather.  We ran down 13th west down the S curve and under Bangerter and went to Bluffdale and then turned around.  It was a good run and I  had fun visiting with Jenny.  Duke was very good.  We let him off his leash when we met up with another lady who was running with her dog off its leash.  Duke really had fun playing with it.  The other lady was 64 years old and was faster than me.  She said when she was 40 she won the St. George Marathon overall the women.  My leg didn't hurt and I wasn't dead at the end.  We ran it in 1hour and 32minutes.  After I showered and ate a bowl of cereal I drove to Jordan Landing to tend Christine's kids while she and Dan ran a race.  It was a 5K and Christine won 2nd place overall.   Walter from our running group won 1st place overall.   Then she ran the 1 mile kids race.  Walter's daugher won first place out of the kids and Rachel, Christine's daughter won 2nd place.

Did my arm weight exercises after work.  After dinner I swam laps.  I swam 21 laps all front crawl.  I made it 7 laps without a break, then I swam 4 laps, had a short break, did 4 more laps with a short break then did 6 more laps.  I watched other people swim and asked them questions, so my last 6 laps were a lot easier because I wasn't kicking my legs so hard..  Leslie still wasn't feeling well enough to swim.

Met the BBK's at Parkway Palisades but was a minute late and they left before I got out of the car.  I ran along the parkway with Duke until we caught up with the group on their way back.  We met the rest of the group at 5:45 and ran over to Parkway Palisades and started up the big hill.  After one time up and down I decided I better not push my sore leg and decided it was enough for today.  After work and a short nap I rode my bike on our 9 mile course and did it in 39 minutes.  Leslie is still not up to par so I rode without her.

Did my leg weight and stomach exercises along with my 80 mens pushups. I'm trying to work up to 100 mens pushups. I think in another month I might be there. After dinner I did laps at the pool. Leslie was still not up to par so I went by myself. I made it 10 laps front crawl before I had to take a break, then I did 5 more took a break and then 5 more. I'm still waiting for the day when I look forward to swimming like I do running.

Met the BBK's at the South Jordan Soccer fields.  Duke and I were up front for the first time around, but by the second I was very tired.  We went slow and I visited with Rachel who wanted to go slow so she would be good for the Ogden Marathon.  I really enjoyed visiting with Rachel.  After the second time around my leg was starting to hurt just slightly so I decided that 6 was good enough.  After work I rode my bike on the 9 miles course.  I hope next week Leslie will feel good enough to swim and bike with me.

Leslie and I went to our Triathlon class.  The swimming was just as hard as usual.  The spinning wasn't too bad but was still hard.  The running felt good.   We ran outside along the canal.   Leslie over did it in the swimming after being sick and almost puked.  She took it easy on the spinning, but she beat me in the run.  She also ran hard enough to beat the man in front of her.  I was quite tired after our class.  I'm still waiting for the day when I look forward to the swim.

I did my arm weight exercises after work.  After dinner I swam laps with Leslie.  An amazing thing happened today.  I was able to swim 11 laps front crawl, take a short break and then do 9 more laps and I wasn't even dead.  I'm not sure if it was because I was trying to swim slower or If I wasn't quite as tired when I strated out, anyway I didn't hate the swimming like I usually do.

Met the group at Bingham for the early miles.  Duke and I led the way for the first part but got tired by the middle.  After the early miles the group was running on the track, so Duke and I ran down 2200 and through a few subdivisions and then back to Bingham.  Tonight Leslie and I rode our bikes on our 9 mile course.  Leslie didn't crash and almost kept up with me.  We had to stop once when Leslie got a bug in her eye.  We need to remember to wear sunglasses next time.

I had an enjoyable time at the Ogden Marathon for the most part. Chrissy, Leslie, Angie, Becca and I drove to Ogden Friday afternoon. Jenny met us there. We stayed at the Hampton Inn. It was a very nice hotel. Bridget, my youngest daughter met us at our hotel with her baby Sicily. We had and fun time. We ate dinner at the Olive Garden and then went back to our hotel to relax. I really thought it was great to have 6 of my 7 daughers there. We got up at 4:30 and caught the bus to the Half-Marathon. When we got to the bonfire, the first person I saw was Mike, Peggy's husband. We (Chrissy, Leslie, Jenny and I) had a good time visiting with him. When the race started Leslie, Jenny and Chrissy and I stayed together for about 2 minutes. Then they were all ahead of me. I wasn't trying to set any records because I felt lucky to even be running the race. After the Riverton 1/2 Marathon I wasn't able to run for over 3 weeks. I was only able to do one long run of 10 miles before the race. I tried to keep a steady pace of 10 minute miles. When I got to the downhill part and knew it was going to be a long race when it didn't really feel like downhill to me. When I got to the 12 mile mark I knew I would make it, but the last mile was extra hard. I even had to walk once for about a minute. When I got to the finish line I guess I was pretty tired because two people hung onto to me as I was about to faint and took me to the medical tent. I felt okay after about 10 minutes. I wanted to get back to our hotel so we didn't miss our free breakfast. Chrissy finished in 1hr 44 mins, Leslie and Jenny finished in 1hr 54 minutes with Leslie coming in about 10 seconds after Jenny.  I finished in 2hrs 15 mins.   The rest of the day I really felt tired and a little bit sick.

Did my arm weight exercises.  After dinner Leslie and I swam.  I was able to go 12 laps front crawl without a break and then I did 10 more laps without a break.  Either I'm getting a little bit better at swimming or I've just learned to go slower and not kill myself off as much.

Met the BBK's at 9800 parkway trail for the early miles.  Jody and I were the only ones that came early, but we got a good run in and I had a nice visit with Jody.  After the other people got there I jogged along the trail for 15 minutes and then jogged back to the car.  On the way back to the car I had a nice visit with Lisa who also had to be to work at 7.  After dinner Leslie and I rode our bikes our 9 mile course.  We wore sunglasses so we didn't get any bugs in our eyes.  Leslie's chain came off once, but she didn't crash.

Did my leg weight, stomach exercises along with 80 mens pushup.  I think 80 is getting pretty hard so may 100 is out of reach for now.   I'm going visiting teaching tonight so I won't be able to swim.

Met the BBK's at Bingham for the early miles.  Jody, Mike, Peggy and I had a nice visit while we ran.  I had to be to work early so I left right after we met the other runners.  After work I rode my bike our 9 miles course.  It took me 38 minutes.

Leslie and I went to our Triathlon class.  After the swim the rest of the class had their bikes there and rode their bike.  We didn't know we were suppose to bring our bikes because we weren't there last week so we drove home and went on our own bike ride. We rode down redwood to 11800 and rode up to about 60th west and turned around and came back.  It was about 9.5 miles and it took me 32 minutes.  It took 20 minutes on the way up and 12 on the way back.  We didn't run because Leslie was taking a less active to the Oquirrh Mountain Temple open house.  We will do a long run on Monday.

Leslie, Chrissy, Duke, Buddy(Christine's Dog) and I went running.  We ran from Chrisine's house down 2200 to Bingham high.  It took about a mile for the dogs to settle down.  When we turned around to head back, Leslie decided she could hold both dogs.(Big Mistake)  She didn't notice the other person running the other direction with a dog.  After she finally got the dogs stopped she immediately gave Buddy back to Christine.  Then Buddy decided to trip me.  We made it back to Chrissy's house but I now have bruises and scrapes on both knees, and my arm.  I think this will be the last time we take two dogs together.

I had to be to work at 6 this morning, so I took Duke running at about 5 am.  My knees are still quite sore so we only went 2 miles.  After work I did my arm weight execises.

Met Dean and our biking group at the South Jordan Rec Center.  There were about 10-12 of us.  We rode down Redwood to 126th south and then west to 40th West.  We rode north on 40th West to 98th South and then East on 98th.  I turned south on 2700 West and went straight to work but rest of the group went back to the Rec Center.  It was a very fun ride, Thanks Dean.

After work I did my leg weight and stomach exercises along with my 80 mens pushups.  The pushups were very hard today.

Leslie and I went to our Triathlon class.  Today we met at the South County Pool.  The pool is 50 meters long so we didn't have to swim quite as many laps, but it was still hard.  For the bike ride we went down 13th west to 144th and then west to 2700 west and then north to 126th and back down to 1300 and to the pool.  The biking part is very easy for me.  Then we ran from the pool down to the parkway trail and out 1 1/2 miles and then back.  It was hot and the run was hard.  I had to walk up part of the hill.  It's a good class and I'm glad we went.
